Born in Los Angeles, CA, David Crosby was the second son of Aliph Van Cortlandt Whitehead and Academy Award-winning cinematographer Floyd Crosby.

After joining the Byrds in 1964, Crosby appeared on the band’s first five albums. Four years later, he formed Crosby, Stills & Nash alongside Stephen Stills of Buffalo Springfield and Graham Nash of the Hollies. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once with each band. Outside of his group work, Crosby also released six solo albums between the years 1971 and 2017.

He was 81 at the time of his death.
